Pipeline

Currently we place 3 compounds, i.e., CBP501, its backup compound group CBS9106, and its backup compound group CBS2400 series as our major development pipelines; based on the order of priority in consideration of business operation and management, we have pushed forward our development on each pipeline.
Pipeline

CBP501 and its backup compound group

CBP501 is a candidate compound for peptide type (*1) anticancer drug, newly created by improving G2 checkpoint abrogation original peptide TAT-S216 which led the establishment of CanBas. In February 2005, IND application to US FDA was approved, and phase 1 clinical studies (monotherapy) in patients with solid cancer in general in multiple study centers in US were conducted. Also, in parallel with that, we had conducted clinical studies of CBP501 with combination use of anticancer drug Cisplatin since October 2006 in patients with solid cancer (*2) in general. Furthermore, phase 1 clinical studies with combination use of Cisplatin and phase 1 clinical studies with combination use of Cisplatin + Pemetrexed have been completed. Based on these study results, currently phase 2 clinical studies with combination use of Cisplatin + Pemetrexed in patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma or non-small-cell lung cancer have been ongoing.

*1 Peptide type/low molecule type
There is no clear definition, but in general, around 1,000-10,000 molecular weight is considered as a border; those compounds with lower molecular weight are called low molecule, and those with higher are called macromolecule. In the field of drug products, those compounds with several hundreds to thousands of molecular weights are called low molecular compounds in general; many of conventional drug products are low molecular compounds. Meanwhile, in order to distinguish from nucleotide and antibody medicine (both are high molecular compounds), sometime those other compounds are called as "low molecular compounds". Peptide is the molecule that amino acid combined together, and its size is various. Molecular weight of CBP501 is 1929.1, and it can be considered as a low molecule type from the view point of molecular weight only; however, it is a peptide with 12 amino acids combined. Therefore, it is called peptide type to distinguish from general low molecule type compounds.

*2 Solid cancer
Cancer developed at any organs and tissues, except "hematological cancer" occurring in blood.

CBS9100 series including CBS9106

CBS9106 is a candidate compound for low molecular type (*) anticancer drug, newly created by optimizing candidate compound group discovered by our unique drug screening method. In experiments using cultured cells and animals, it has been confirmed that the efficacy of CBS9106 was brought from another combination use that was different from the anticancer drugs or target cancers evidenced with the combination use of CBP501 and its backup compounds. Thus, CBS9106 is independent pipeline from CBP501.
We retain several low molecular type compounds that we obtained through the optimization process of CBS9106 as backup in case of any disorder occurred in a development process of CBS9106. Currently we have conducted a preclinical study of CBS9106.

CBS2400 series

CBS2400 series are candidate compound group for low molecular type drug, newly created by improving candidate compounds discovered by our unique drug screening method. Compounds in this series are low molecular types as like CBS9106. However, in experiments using cultured cells and animals, it has been confirmed that the efficacy of CBS2400 was brought from another combination use that was different from the anticancer drugs or target cancers evidenced with the combination use of CBP501 and CBS9106. Thus, CBS2400 is independent pipeline from either CBP501 or CBS9106. Currently this series is under the optimization process to set CBS 2404, showing the most desirable  activity in this series (successful compound), as the core.

Procurement of new pipeline

For drug discovery companies like us, it is essential to secure the system continuously to create and procure new development pipelines (hereinafter referred as "drug discovery engine") for future continuous growth.
In CanBas, we focus on mechanism of G2 checkpoint abrogation, and in order to create and procure new candidate compounds for anticancer drug with fewer impact on normal cells, we keep target compounds to search, using our unique screening method that has been issued for patent in US and Europe as drug discovery engine, for continuous exploratory study of new compounds for future development candidate.
Also, we positively employ drug discovery tools including data mining technology and try to improve/reinforce the drug discovery engine, which is the source of our competitive power.
