Drug discovery concept of CanBas

Based on the research results of cell cycles, we research and develop anticancer drugs with fewer impact on normal cells.

1.Research and development focusing on the mechanism of G2 checkpoint abrogation

Cells continuously repeat division and replication. In the process of a cell to divide (cell cycle), there are S phase to replicate DNA, M phase to divide into 2 cells, and G1 and G2 phases as pre-process of each phase. In G1 and G2 phases, there are checkpoints that are used by the cell to determine if the cell is progressing correctly through replication. These checkpoints allow the cell to pause during replication and repair damaged DNA and to ensure that the cell is properly prepared to continue with cell division. If the cell does not receive the correct signals to proceed through a checkpoint, a safety mechanism may be induced that causes cell death via apoptosis.

Research has shown that both G1 and G2 phases have the mechanism to check disorder. However, when the G1 checkpoint is impaired in cancers, this impairment increases the chance for the cell to replicate damaged DNA thereby inducing mutation. Therefore, many pharmaceutical companies have been tried to focus on G1 checkpoint to proceed development of new drug. However, the impact of drug not only on cancer cells but also on normal cells has been problem. We have focused on the feature of cancer cells not to function in G1 phase but act its checkpoint mechanism just before entering in G2 phase. Our unique pursuance of anticancer drug development with fewer impact on normal cells contributes our superiority in the industry.

2.Unique screening system

To develop anticancer drug which strengthens its toxicity to cancer, but not remains toxicity in normal cells. That is the ideal feature of anticancer drug. In order to discover such compounds, we have developed the unique screening system which predicts highly possible unknown substances when we enter information of substances. As shortened the time-consuming screening process a one-several hundredth compared from the conventional method, we draw a differential strategy from other companies.
