Takumi Kawabe, MD, PhD, CEO
Dr. Kawabe co-founded CanBas in 2000, and has served as CEO since 2003. Previously, he was Associate Professor at the Molecular Medicine Research Institute of Nagoya City University. He completed 5 years of post-doctoral training in Dr. Stanley Korsmeyer’s laboratory at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis. Dr. Kawabe holds an M.D. from Kyoto University Medical School, completed residency at Kyoto University Hospital and Kyoto National Hospital, and holds a Ph.D. in Immunology and Molecular Biology from Kyoto University.
Makoto Katozumi, CFO
Makoto Katozumi has been a Director of CanBas since 2000. In 2005, he joined the Company as General Manager, Administrative Team, and in May 2009 assumed his current position of Chief Financial Officer. He was previously COO of MBL Venture Capital Co, Ltd., which managed funds investing in emerging life science companies in Japan and overseas.
Kazuyoshi Sakamoto, General Manager, Corporate Planning
Kazuyoshi Sakamoto joined the administrative team of CanBas in 2008, and since Feb 2010 has served as General Manager, Corporate Planning. He has previously been an investment officer at Daiwa Corporate Investment Co., Ltd, the venture capital and private equity arm of Daiwa Securities Group. Mr. Sakamoto also has prior experience at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), where he was Executive Director, Corporate Finance, and at Chase Manhattan Bank, where he worked in a range of financial services including structured finance, debt restructuring and private placement
